River (U)
Jennifer Peedom, 2021 74mCurrently not screening
Throughout history, rivers have shaped our landscapes and our journeys; flowed through our cultures, cities and dreams. Continuing her exploration of nature as an elemental force, the stunning new film from award-winning director Jennifer Peedom (Solo, Sherpa, Mountain) is a cinematic and musical odyssey that explores the remarkable relationship between humans and rivers; spanning six continents and drawing on extraordinary contemporary cinematography to show rivers on a scale and from perspectives never seen before.
Both dream-like and powerful, River honours the wildness of rivers while recognising their vulnerability. Scripted by acclaimed nature writer Robert Macfarlane, narrated by actor Willem Dafoe and featuring music by Jonny Greenwood, Radiohead, Richard Tognetti and the Australian Chamber Orchestra (ACO), it combines breathtaking aerial footage and satellite imagery, a poetic, meditative narration, and a deep engagement with environmental change.
