Rohan Parashuram Kanawade’s semi-autobiographical debut is a tender, understated study of grief, love and queerness in rural Maharashtra.
After his father dies, Anand (Bhushaan Manoj) returns home from Mumbai for a 10-day mourning period. But the intensity of these rituals and his relatives’ pressure on him to marry leave him little room to grieve. His rekindled friendship with childhood pal Balya (Suraaj Suman) offers him freedom though, and as the pair reconnect, their companionship leads to deeper feelings of desire.
Beautifully photographed against Western India’s rugged landscapes, Kanawade’s modern romance won the World Cinema Grand Jury Prize at Sundance Film Festival 2025.
