Please note: we are only taking bookings for the full four-week course
Learn illustration and lino printing techniques inspired by Edward Bawden, a close friend of Eric Ravilious, whose versatile and charming illustrative style continues to influence artists today. In this four week course, you'll learn to create lively characters and scenes, and produce multi-layered linocut prints of your own design.
Whether you're a complete beginner or would just like to dedicate time to creating each week, this guided, relaxed and low-pressure course is suited to all levels.
During the sessions, we will focus on exploring Bawden's process and learning from his unique way of working; not trying to make an exact copy of his work or creating a ‘perfect masterpiece’, but having fun, meeting like-minded people and discovering new ways to bring ideas to life.
You'll leave the course with a chunky, hand-bound sketchbook full of experiments, techniques, notes, and drawings. You’ll also learn about materials, what to buy if you’d like to continue your illustration and lino practice, and how to develop more finished pieces inspired by what you’ve learned throughout the course.
All materials are provided. Tea and coffee will be available at each session.
This programme will be taught by Zara Wilkins, who has over three years’ experience teaching art to beginner adults. She first studied illustration at university, graduating in 2019 and subsequently worked in illustration before moving into her passion of teaching. Zara is a multidisciplinary artist, spanning many mediums over her education, career, and personal life. For the last three years she has been teaching watercolours full time and as of this year has begun teaching lino printing to beginners in Brighton.
